Musical collaborators: Ollie p. Hawker
Ollie Hawker is a Glasgow-based composer interested in ideas of digital nostalgia and the internet as folk culture, both overtly and in more subtextual ways. He uses both acoustic and electronic forces to explore the combination of earnest sincerity and ironic absurdism that characterises much of his generation’s online discourse and in turn mediates their experience of the world.
Ollie holds a Masters degree in composition from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he studied with Linda Buckley and Alistair MacDonald, and was awarded the 2020 Kimie Composition Prize. Recent works have been performed by British ensembles Any Enemy, SEAM and Psappha, as well as international performances by Köng Duo, Megumi Masaki and Inland Ocean. He designs and performs live electronics for the audiovisual duo Instruction Manual, plays in the folk band Neuro Trash, and works as a community music practitioner for several Scottish charities.
